“One thing I found out is that when you make patchwork things, you create a single fabric out of multiple. I didn’t want to do that, I wanted to make use of what’s already there, and bring down the production time. If I were to patchwork these things (Mad mfg JeanJeans), my prices would be double or triple.
Instead of making a fabric with a bunch of patches together, I’m patch working the actual panels together. So the pattern is traced onto a pair of existing jeans that have been opened (flat), and then some details and seams from the previous construction of the jeans will be incorporated into the pair I make. So the asymmetry of which jeans I’m working with, like thick seams that won’t fit in some places, have to be considered as I’m making the new pair.”
“I love a raw finish. Like raw cuffs. There's something so graceful yet not proper to it. It seems like a rebellion or something. That romance of things in decay is so beautiful to me.”
“There are so many different ways to draft for the anatomy of a person. The slightest alterations make a body look entirely different, which is fun and interesting for me.”
